Terms of service
The rules for using Drawdiags. They are short because the service is simple: it is free, there is no account, and your work stays with you.
The short version
- The service is free and comes as is, without guarantees.
- You own what you create, and it never reaches us.
- Your documents live in your browser. Keep copies of anything you would hate to lose.
- Check generated code before you rely on it.
- Don’t misuse the service, or use it to spread unlawful content.
About these terms
These terms apply when you use drawdiags.com (the hub site and the Drawtabase, Drawpenapi, Drawmaid, Drawlize and Drawuml editors), the Drawdiags apps for Confluence Cloud and the Drawdiags extensions for Visual Studio Code. Together we call them “the service”. The service is provided by Drawdiags (“we”, “us”).
By using the service you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it. Our privacy policy explains what happens to data when you use the service.
The service
The service is a set of editors that turn diagrams into code and code into diagrams, in your browser. It is free of charge and needs no account.
We may change, add or remove features, and we may suspend or stop all or part of the service at any time. There is no account, so there is nothing to cancel: you can stop using the service whenever you like.
Your content
The diagrams, code and other material you create or import with the service (“your content”) remain yours. We claim no ownership of your content and need no license to it, because it doesn’t reach us: it stays in your browser, in files on your device, or in the Confluence pages where you put it.
You are responsible for your content: for having the right to use anything you import, and for what you do with what you create.
Storage, backups and lost work
Your documents are kept in your browser’s storage on your device (see the privacy policy). Browsers can delete that storage: when you clear site data, when a private window closes, when your disk is nearly full, or under their own rules. Safari, for example, may clear a site’s storage after seven days of use without a visit. A different browser or device won’t have your documents.
We can’t see or recover your documents. Keep copies of anything important by saving to a file or exporting the code.
Generated code
The editors generate SQL, OpenAPI, Mermaid, PlantUML, JSON and YAML, and read code you paste in. Generated code can be incomplete or wrong, and a parser may not understand every construct of a language or dialect.
Review generated code before you run it against a database, publish an API, or rely on it in any other way. You use it at your own risk.
Acceptable use
When you use the service, don’t:
- break the law or infringe anyone’s rights;
- use the service or its share links to spread malware, or unlawful, infringing or abusive content;
- attack, overload, probe or disrupt the service or the infrastructure it runs on, or try to get around its security;
- pass the service off as your own, or use the Drawdiags names and logos in a way that suggests we endorse you.
We may block access by anyone who breaks these rules.
Our rights
The service, including its software, design, names and logos (Drawdiags, Drawtabase, Drawpenapi, Drawmaid, Drawlize and Drawuml), belongs to us or our licensors. These terms give you a personal, free, non-exclusive right to use the service as it is offered. They don’t transfer any ownership to you.
The service includes open-source software, used under its own licenses. Nothing in these terms limits the rights those licenses give you.
Names of languages, tools and platforms that appear on the service, such as Mermaid, PlantUML, OpenAPI, Confluence, Atlassian, Visual Studio Code and Microsoft, belong to their owners. The service is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
The Confluence apps
The Confluence apps are also subject to Atlassian’s terms for Confluence Cloud, and to the Atlassian Marketplace terms where an app is obtained there. Your organization’s Confluence administrators decide whether an app is installed and who can use it. Diagrams made with the apps are stored in your Confluence pages, under your organization’s control.
The VS Code extensions
The VS Code extensions are also subject to the terms of the place you get them from: the Visual Studio Marketplace or Open VSX. An extension works on the files you open with it, and those files stay yours and on your device.
When you change a diagram, the extension rewrites the whole file in the editor’s own format. Comments, your own formatting and anything the diagram doesn’t show are not kept. The extension asks before it first rewrites a file it didn’t write. Keep such files under version control, or keep a copy.
Other services and websites
The service relies on other companies’ infrastructure (Cloudflare hosts the website, Atlassian runs the Confluence apps, and Microsoft and the Eclipse Foundation distribute the VS Code extensions) and links to other websites. We aren’t responsible for other companies’ websites or services. Their own terms apply to them.
No warranty
The service is free and is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we make no promises about it: for example, that it will be available, uninterrupted, free of errors or secure, that it will keep your data, or that generated code will be correct or fit for your purpose.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using the service or from being unable to use it, including lost documents or data, lost profits, and indirect or consequential damage.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow to be excluded or limited, such as liability for intent or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing in these terms affects the rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the service changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If you keep using the service after a change, the new terms apply from then on.
General
If any part of these terms turns out to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a part of these terms, we haven’t given up the right to. These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
